These are the questions people ask us most.
Please take note. Some questions
are geared toward IRS questions.
We are not giving advice, we are simply answering
some of your questions as we ask them to the IRS for our own purpose yet we take no responsibility for decisions you may decide
to make. We are not attorneys nor tax advisors or CPA's
If you need further
information or advise you should contact the IRS or your attorney.
Q. Where are you located and is there parking especially
for handicapped?
A. Our physical mailing address is on our contact page. We do not see people there, to keep cost
down our business for now is an online business.
Q. What are your business hours?
A. Our business hours are virtually 24 hours perday since we can be reached online we are looking for a volunteer
people so that someone may be at the phones 9:00-5:00
Q.
Do you charge for consulting?
A. We ask for donations for all our services we provide. Everything we do like everyone
else cost money. It must be passed on in a dollar sence. However the only consultation we give is on where we are putting
the donations at that time.
Q. Can I contact somebody
you have helped in the past?
A. We do have some people who dont mind us giving out certain contact information
about them but unless it is posted on the web site we do not give out information and when it is done, it is done on a case
by case situation. By far we do not give out information people trust our confidence, so overall the answer will be no to
the question.
Q. What is the purpose of your non profit?
A. Great question; Our mission is to get the funds to the
right people where the rubber meets the road and that the funds can get to the people in need as fast as possible. We are
a non profit that helps others in education, housing health and other needs that people have. More on our mission
it is to get the help to the folks that need it faster and better than anyone else. We specialize in helping kids in
many areas and people with disibilities. We want people to understand we get the funds to everyone, as
soon as the money comes in we put it where the need is at that time.
Q. Can I write my donation off as a tax write off when I donate to your company?
A. Yes! A non profit is a non profit as long as the corporations stay within the IRS guidelines.
We do not want to be a for
profit corporation therefore we stay in those guidelines. Before we had the 501 I heard from some people where the IRS still
allowed the write off.
We are a 501 (c) (3) the tax
exempt corporation in order to gain the large dollar amount of loans and grants from the government and other large donators
therefore we wish to remain a non profit.
Since we are a
501 (c) (3) corporation the IRS says that your tax donations to Scott Group GML Foundation are in fact a write off.
Q. How can we send clothes or furniture to your organization?
A.
We don't want people to send such items at this time we do not have the storage space.
We prefer cash, credit cards or gift certificates to buy the clothes. However
we will take the items if you send it to our corporate address.
Q. Who or what is ScottGroup GML and who owns it?
A. ScottGroup is a
corporation it is a entity to itself. Everyone is an employee or give of their time even the founder.
Most members in the organization will not on the payroll
but work with us in a volunteer capacity. Some professionals may be compensated for their time however even at that we first
ask people to donate their time. We seek to have professionals on the board some will get compensation some will not. More
answers about the board are below.
The ScottGroup
name comes from its founder Jorge C Scott. Scott is his last name the group part of it is his own invention to honor his name
and the name of his parents and grandparents and to make the corporation be and sound more like a business. GML is simply
the names of his mother and grandparents. When filing for a name the founder says that it was easier to secure a business
name that he wanted and nobody else had if someone else has the name you cannot use it. As long as the corporation is
in business it will always be ScottGroup GML Foundation, it is written in the by laws of the corporation.
Q. What does the corporation need
to keep going?
A. Donations, donations donations, donations.
Volunteers, volunteers, volunteers, volunteers.
There is a lot to do and the expenses of just opperating a business cost these
days. This web site cost, mailings cost everything cost.
Therefore we
need the donation first!
You can donate large or small. You can donate once or regular by becoming
a donating member and pledge any amount you want to donate every month, or just simply send in the donation as often as you
want. We need office space and furniture. We need transportation.
Not only for some of the members but we need a used class C motor home as a traveling
office and then serves also as temporary housing for people who have been displaced in a disaster.
There are places up and down California that we would visit, having the motor home would cut down on hotel motel cost. Then
there are places where we need to use the hotels we pay for that with cash or credit card out our own
pocket. Yet the founder prefers to stay simple in running the corporation when at all possible.
The cars that are donated would have to be in good condition to keep cost down
for us in terms of repairs. We know that people want to get a tax write off for junk cars but we don't except junk cars at
this time. Like some non profits some cars we don't keep we sale to help with keeping the doors open and others are
donated to people who need a car. For the most part most of the cars go directly to poor families and college students who
need a car.
We need donations to buy
clothing for those returning to the work force, for some homeless situations and for kids. We buy new clothes we
look daily for the sales as we don't have the storage space to keep the clothes so we buy it at the time we see the
person in need. We also shop the thrift stores.
We
need professionals from many professions to join the board of directors in support of our large projects. The board meets only
twice per year and only when there are serious decisions to be made. Most time inputs can be by phone mail or proxy.
We need temporary and permanent shelters for battered women/men homes
for homeless teens in emergency situations. There are a lot of teens out there who should be at home and although we
don't support them leaving the fact is they are out there.
We
need vans to run senior citizens to and from appointments, shopping, recreation etc.
We need tickets to ball games so we can send kids who would never get a chance to go to a game. The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers
have been most helpful in this area by sending us tickets however there is more kids than tickets
We need office space we need so much call, email, or write and we will go into more detail about
our projects.
Q. Do you represent any religious
organizations?
A. We do not and never will, nor do we represent any political organization. We are
a charities non profit only. Our focus is Education, Health, Housing. A non profit stays away from such affiliations. It part
of the setup and filing process with the IRS.
Q. How do I know my donation will go to the cause you say it does.
A.
First off we are a 501 c 3 corp we want to keep that status. To do so we have to follow the guidelines of the IRS.
In some cases you will see it posted on our web site as much as possible where
the money is going, in other cases you can find our filings with the IRS on the internet. In addition we keep close records
on where the funds and goods go and in all cases the founder is still presently involved in where the funds go. We do
not wish to make a profit from any donation that comes from us we only need to keep the doors open and pay the salary of those
who do work for us.
We have field managers and directors who are out for the corporation some are compensated
for their duties from the corporation, some are not.
At this time we operate totally from the web site Do Not Give Cash,
Credit Card or any other forms of gain to someone in the field!
Not to say they are not honest but it is to keep us all honest. Make a check money order cashiers
check, cash etc and send it to ScottGroup GML Foundation to our mailing address. Some have asked about sending cash,
in our opinion sending cash in any mailing is risky, however as far as us receiving the cash our treasure is one of the most
honest persons on the planet and a person of our congregation. He has also been check out with the FBI in a background check
including any contact if at all with the kids we give donations too. As a matter of fact all of us have been passed by the
FBI background check.
You can use your credit card to send the
donation straight to the corporation as well by using pay pal.
Q.What
do I have to do to qualify to become a member of the board?
A. Most organization require a person to
18 years old. We make that 21 years old and prefer one to be 25. You must love to help people. You must understand that we
do not make a profit and that we do not want to. You must have the same ideas as the corporation and go in its directions.
All the other items a person has such as degrees business experience etc is gravey for the corporation and that’s it.
The board meets on your appointment and it goes from there. At this time though we are looking for professionals as the
corp grows so will our doors be open to more opportunities. We need people in legal matters, health, transportation, housing,
education, etc.
Q.
Who take the pictures on this site?
A.
The founder was born and raised in San Francisco he takes pictures and video of the city all the time. He also
has people that send him pictures of the city, so that is his pet project. He also loves other cities in the United States and the country of Dubai so you might see photos of other places and Dubai as well. In that line of talk we are looking for someone to handle
all the work and design for the web site but still let the founder enjoy his world of photos.
